There has been word going round that the Eritrean government had passed a law that required every man to marry two wives or face imprisonment.
This story has caused a frenzy and has been going round especially on social media, getting men excited about how they want to relocate to the country to get the hot Eritrean women.
The topic has been the talk of the week, with people sharing funny memes and videos regarding the alleged new polygamy law in the Eritrea.
But sadly, Team Mafisi are not so lucky as it looks like the whole thing was just a hoax.
MEDIA FRENZY TO PARROT THIS LUDICROUS, FABRICATED & TRITE STORY OF THE MUFTI’S PRESUMED RELIGIOUS DECREE ON MANDATORY POLYGAMY IS APPALLING. THE STORY ILLUSTRATES VILENESS OF [THE] DARK FORCES OF DISINFORMATION & PROCLIVITY OF OTHERS TO READILY EMBRACE [THE] NEGATIVE NARRATIVE ON ERITREA
This claims started when a story was first published on a Somali website, Diplomat News Network, and later picked by a top Kenyan newspaper and other news outlets in Nigeria and South Africa.
The website put up a document typed in Arabic, which they claimed was from the Government of Eritrea’s department of Religious Affairs, on Facebook. In their translation, it says the department has decided that “every man shall marry at least two women and the man who refuses to do so shall be subjected to life imprisonment”.
As usual. KOT went on the overdrive when the hoax first hit the internet and it even became a trend. Sorry to all the thirsty men who were planning to take Eritrean trips on Valentines Day.
